Commit 30e114ef4b ("drm/i915/tc: Check for DP-alt, legacy sinks before
taking PHY ownership") defaults any disconnected Type-C ports to TBT-alt
mode which presents a problem (which could most likely result in a system
hang) when userspace forces a modeset on a Type-C port that is wired for
legacy HDMI. The following warning is seen when Weston forces a modeset

Continuing with the modeset without setting the DDI clock results in
more warnings and eventually a system hang. This does not seem to
happen with disconnected legacy or DP-alt DP ports because the clock
rate defaults to 162000 (which is a valid TBT clock) during the link
training process. Therefore, to fix this issue, this patch avoids
setting disconnected Type-C legacy ports to TBT-alt mode which prevents
the selection of TBT PLL when a modeset is forced.

Atm the port -> DDI and AUX power domain mapping is specified by relying
on the aliasing of the platform specific intel_display_power_domain enum
values. For instance D12+ platforms refer to the 'D' port and power
domain instances, which doesn't match the bspec terminology, on these
platforms the corresponding port is TC1. To make it clear what
port/domain the code refers to add a mapping between them which matches
the bspec terms on different display versions.
This also allows for removing the aliasing in enum values in a follow-up
patch.

BIOS may leave a TypeC PHY in a connected state even though the
corresponding port is disabled. This will prevent any hotplug events
from being signalled (after the monitor deasserts and then reasserts its
HPD) until the PHY is disconnected and so the driver will not detect a
connected sink. Rebooting with the PHY in the connected state also
results in a system hang.
Fix the above by disconnecting TypeC PHYs on disabled ports.
Before commit 64851a32c4 the PHY connected state was read out even
for disabled ports and later the PHY got disconnected as a side effect
of a tc_port_lock/unlock() sequence (during connector probing), hence
recovering the port's hotplug functionality.

Several of our i915 header files, have been including i915_reg.h. This
means that any change to i915_reg.h will trigger a full rebuild of
pretty much every file of the driver, even those that don't have any
kind of register access. Let's delete the i915_reg.h include from all
headers and add an explicit include from the .c files that truly
need the register definitions; those that need a definition of
i915_reg_t for a function definition can get it from i915_reg_defs.h
instead.
We also remove two non-register #define's (VLV_DISPLAY_BASE and
GEN12_SFC_DONE_MAX) into i915_reg_defs.h to allow us to drop the
i915_reg.h include from a couple of headers.
There's probably a lot more header dependency optimization possible, but
the changes here roughly cut the number of files compiled after 'touch
i915_reg.h' in half --- a good first step.

The TCSS_DDI_STATUS register is indexed by tc_port not by the FIA port
index, fix this up. This only caused an issue on TC#3/4 ports in legacy
mode, as in all other cases the two indices either match (on TC#1/2) or
the TCSS_DDI_STATUS_READY flag is set regardless of something being
connected or not (on TC#1/2/3/4 in dp-alt and tbt-alt modes).

Registers representing the MG/DKL TC PHYs (including the TC DPLLs which
exist inside the PHY) are only needed in a couple files and on specific
platforms; let's keep them separate from the general register pool.

The PHY ownership release->AUX PW disable steps during a modeset
disable->PHY disconnect sequence can hang the system if the PHY
disconnect happens after disabling the PHY's PLL. The spec doesn't
require a specific order for these two steps, so this issue is still
being root caused by HW/FW teams. Until that is found, let's make
sure the disconnect happens before the PLL is disabled, and do this on
all platforms for consistency.

So far TC-cold was blocked only for the duration of TypeC mode resets.
The DP-alt and legacy modes require TC-cold to be blocked also whenever
the port is in use (AUX transfers, enable modeset), and this was ensured
by the held PHY ownership flag. On ADL-P this doesn't work, since the
PHY ownership flag is in a register backed by the PW#2 power well.
Whenever this power well is disabled the ownership flag is cleared by
the HW under the driver.
The only way to cleanly release and re-acquire the PHY ownership flag
and also allow for power saving (by disabling the display power wells
and reaching DC5/6 states) is to hold the TC-cold blocking power domains
while the PHY is connected and disconnect/reconnect the PHY on-demand
around AUX transfers and modeset enable/disables. Let's do that,
disconnecting a PHY with a 1 sec delay after it becomes idle. For
consistency do this on all platforms and TypeC modes.

While a TypeC port mode is locked a DISPLAY_CORE power domain reference
is held, which implies a runtime PM ref. By removing the ICL !legacy
port special casing, a TC_COLD_OFF power domain reference will be taken
for such ports, which also translates to a runtime PM ref on that
platform. A follow-up change will stop holding the DISPLAY_CORE power
domain while the port is locked.

For the ADL-P TBT mode the spec doesn't require blocking TC-cold by
using the legacy AUX power domain. To avoid the timeouts that this would
cause during PHY disconnect/reconnect sequences (which will be more
frequent after a follow-up change) use the TC_COLD_OFF power domain in
TBT mode on all platforms. On TGL this power domain blocks TC-cold via a
PUNIT command, while on other platforms the domain just takes a runtime
PM reference.
If the HPD live status indicates that the port mode needs to be reset
- for instance after switching from TBT to a DP-alt sink - still take
the AUX domain, since the IOM firmware handshake requires this.

A follow-up patch will disconnect/reconnect PHYs around AUX transfers
and modeset enable/disables. To prepare for that and make things
consistent for all TypeC modes stop connecting the PHY in legacy mode
without a sink being connected. This was done before since in legacy
mode the PHY is dedicated to display usage, so there was no point in
disconnecting it. However after the follow-up changes the TC-cold
blocking power domains will be held as long as the PHY is in the
connected state, so we'll need to disconnect/re-connect the PHY in all
TypeC modes to allow for power saving.

On ADL-P the PHY ready/complete flag is always set even in TBT-alt mode.
To avoid taking the PHY ownership and the following spurious "PHY sudden
disconnect" messages on this platform when connecting the PHY in TBT
mode, check if there is any DP-alt or legacy sink connected before
taking the ownership.

Waiting for the PHY complete flag to clear when releasing the PHY
ownership was add in
commit ddec362724 ("drm/i915: Wait for TypeC PHY complete flag to clear in safe mode")
This isn't required by the spec, the vague idea was to make the
handshake with the firmware more robust, without actual evidence for
when it would be needed. Checking this again, the flag doesn't clear on
ICL until after the PHY's PLL is disabled and the flag is permanently
set on ADL-P. To avoid the spurious timeout messages in dmesg, just
remove this wait.

On ADL-P the PHY ready (aka status complete on other platforms) flag is
always set, besides when a DP-alt, legacy sink is connected also when a
TBT sink is connected or nothing is connected. So assume the PHY to be
connected when both the TBT live status and PHY ready flags are set.

Disconnect TypeC PHYs during system suspend and shutdown, even with the
corresponding TypeC sink still plugged to its connector, since leaving
the PHY connected causes havoc at least during system resume in the
presence of an Nvidia card.
Note that this will only make a difference in the TypeC DP alternate
mode, since in Thunderbolt alternate mode the PHY is never owned by the
display engine and there is no notion of PHY ownership in legacy mode
(the display engine being the only possible owner in that mode and the
TypeC subsystem not having anything to do with the port in that case).

On ADL-P TC cold is exited and blocked when legacy aux is powered,
that is exacly the same of what ICL need for static TC ports.
TODO: When a TBT hub or monitor is connected it will cause TBT and
legacy aux to be powered at the same time, hopefully this will not
cause any issues but if it do, some rework will be needed.

MODULAR_FIA_MASK is set in adl_p so we can drop this ealier return
and read registers.
Also to avoid warnings from icl_tc_port_assert_ref_held() when
calling tc_cold_block() in this functions it is necessary to held the

ADL-P have basically the same TC connection and disconnection
sequences as ICL and TGL, the major difference is the new registers.
So here adding functions without the icl prefix in the name and
making the new functions call the platform specific function to access
the correct register.

When DP_PHY_MODE_STATUS_NOT_SAFE is set, it means that display
has the control over the TC phy.
The "not safe" naming is confusing using ownership make it easier
to read also future platforms will have a new register that does the
same job as DP_PHY_MODE_STATUS_NOT_SAFE but with the onwership name.

While converting the rest of the driver to use GRAPHICS_VER() and
MEDIA_VER(), following what was done for display, some discussions went
back on what we did for display:
1) Why is the == comparison special that deserves a separate
macro instead of just getting the version and comparing directly
like is done for >, >=, <=?
2) IS_DISPLAY_RANGE() is weird in that it omits the "_VER" for
brevity. If we remove the current users of IS_DISPLAY_VER(), we
could actually repurpose it for a range check
With (1) there could be an advantage if we used gen_mask since multiple
conditionals be combined by the compiler in a single and instruction and
check the result. However a) INTEL_GEN() doesn't use the mask since it
would make the code bigger everywhere else and b) in the cases it made
sense, it also made sense to convert to the _RANGE() variant.
So here we repurpose IS_DISPLAY_VER() to work with a [ from, to ] range
like was the IS_DISPLAY_RANGE() and convert the current IS_DISPLAY_VER()
users to use == and != operators. Aside from the definition changes,
this was done by the following semantic patch:

Use Coccinelle to convert most of the usage of INTEL_GEN() and IS_GEN()
in the display code to use DISPLAY_VER() comparisons instead. The
following semantic patch was used:

The TypeC FIA can be powered down if the TC-COLD power state is allowed,
so block the TC-COLD state when initializing the FIA.
Note that this isn't needed on ICL where the FIA is never modular and
which has no generic way to block TC-COLD (except for platforms with a
legacy TypeC port and on those too only via these legacy ports, not via
a DP-alt/TBT port).

If the VBT assigned tc->legacy_port mismatches the live_status indicator
for the connector, we ignore the VBT directive and switch over to the HW
setting. This is not a driver error, unless we happen to misparse the
VBT or the live_status registers. However, for the system in CI where
the error is only reported on 1 port out of 4, the evidence indicates
the VBT is wrong. Stop flaging this as an error since the cause is
beyond our control, fixup the mistake and continue on.

struct drm_device specific drm_WARN* macros include device information
in the backtrace, so we know what device the warnings originate from.
Prefer drm_WARN_ON over WARN_ON.

Let's get rid of the platform if ladders in
intel_digital_port_connected() and make it a vfunc. Now the if
ladders are at the encoder initialization which makes them a bit
less convoluted.

As described in "drm/i915/tc/icl: Implement TC cold sequences" users
of TC functions should held aux power well during access to avoid
read garbage due HW in TC cold state.

TC ports can enter in TCCOLD to save power and is required to request
to PCODE to exit this state before use or read to TC registers.
For TGL there is a new MBOX command to do that with a parameter to ask
PCODE to exit and block TCCOLD entry or unblock TCCOLD entry.
So adding a new power domain to reuse the refcount and only allow
TC cold when all TC ports are not in use.

This is required for legacy/static TC ports as IOM is not aware of
the connection and will not trigger the TC cold exit.
Just request PCODE to exit TCCOLD is not enough as it could enter
again before driver makes use of the port, to prevent it BSpec states
that aux powerwell should be held.
So here embedding the TC cold exit sequence into ICL aux enable,
it will enable aux and then request TC cold to exit.
The TC cold block(exit and aux hold) and unblock was added to some
exported TC functions for the others and to access PHY registers,
callers should enable and keep aux powerwell enabled during access.
Also adding TC cold check and warnig in tc_port_load_fia_params() as
at this point of the driver initialization we can't request power
wells, if we get this warning we will need to figure out how to handle
it.

- using dig_port->tc_legacy_port to only execute sequences for legacy

BSpec was updated(r146548) with a new MG_DP_MODE Programming table,
now taking in consideration the pin assignment and allowing us to
optimize power by shutting down available but not needed lanes.
It was tested on ICL and TGL, with adaptors that used pin assignment
C and B, reversing the connector and going to different modes testing
the not needed lane shutdown.

If platform supports and has modular FIA is enabled, the registers
bits also change, example: reading TC3 registers with modular FIA
enabled, driver should read from FIA2 but with TC1 bits offsets.
It is described in BSpec 50231 for DFLEXDPSP, other registers don't
have the BSpec description but testing in real hardware have proven
that it had moved for all other registers too.

Everything about the file is about display, and mostly about types
related to display. Move under display/ as intel_display_types.h to
reflect the facts.
There's still plenty to clean up, but start off with moving the file
where it logically belongs and naming according to contents.

Some platforms may have Modular FIA. If Modular FIA is used in the SOC,
then Display Driver will access the additional instances of
FIA based on pre-assigned offset in GTTMADDR space.
Each Modular FIA instance has its own IOSF Sideband Port ID
and it houses only 2 Type-C Port. In SOC that has more than
two Type-C Ports, there are multiple instances of Modular FIA.
Gunit will need to use different destination ID when it access
different pair of Type-C Port.
The DFLEXDPSP register has Modular FIA bit starting on Tiger Lake. If
Modular FIA is used in the SOC, this register bit exists in all the
instances of Modular FIA. IOM FW is required to program only the MF bit
in first FIA instance that houses the Type-C Port 0 and Port 1, for
Display Driver to read from.

PORT_TX_DFLEXDPMLE1 is a FIA register so move it to intel_tc.c where we
access other FIA registers. In Tiger Lake we have multiple/modular FIAs
so it makes sense to start moving all access to their registers to a
common place.
While at it, make it clear that we will only ever call this function
for ports with TC phy. Previously we were relying on tc_mode being
TC_PORT_TBT_ALT for combo phy ports. However it's confusing since in
this same function we have checks for is_tc_port. Also, if we manage to
make each phy access only their own field, we may in future add them as
a union inside intel_digital_port.
