Merge tag 'i2c-for-6.9-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/wsa/linux

Pull i2c updates from Wolfram Sang:
"Minor changes to the I2C core. Most changes are in drivers:

The i801 and designware drivers received most of the changes,
  including refactorings and some additions.

Recovery changes for the iMX and iMX-LPI2C are now utilizing the
  generic i2c support.

The Cadence driver now supports system suspend and resume.

The hisi, mpc, sh_mobile, and npcm drivers have undergone some
cleanups and improvements. Meanwhile, Uwe continues his work on
converting the "remove" callback to become a void function.

The pca954x mux driver now supports additional configurations, such as
isolating faulty channels and flushing stuck buses, among others.

Support has been added for Renesas r8a779h0, i.MX95 LPI2C, and
Microchip sam9x7. Meanwhile, Geert lays the groundwork for the
  upcoming R-Car Gen4"

c0fcc4d9fc i2c: imx: move to generic GPIO recovery
Starting with
commit 75820314de ("i2c: core: add generic I2C GPIO recovery")
GPIO bus recovery is supported by the I2C core, so we can remove the
driver implementation and use that one instead.

As a nice side-effect, pinctrl becomes optional, allowing bus recovery on
LS1021A, which does not have such luxury, but can be wired up to use extra
fixed GPIO pins.

Note: The previous error messages about bus recovery not being supported is
dropped with this change. Given that it is perfectly possible to have platforms
where bus recovery works without pinctrl support, I happen to work on one such,
both error messages does not really make sense in those cases. And I don't see
how to know if this is the case or not.

c8930ed073 i2c: Make return value check more accurate and explicit for devm_pinctrl_get()
If pinctrl is not available (thus devm_pinctrl_get() returns NULL) then
recovery can't work, because we can't switch the I2C pins between the
I2C controller and GPIO. So, it is quite correct to print
"can't get pinctrl, bus recovery not supported" because the I2C bus
can't be recovered without pinctrl.

The PTR_ERR() is also fine - because if pinctrl is not present and
returns NULL, we'll end up returning zero, which is exactly what we
want.

However, open code that with a more accurate message will be more explicit
for NULL case when CONFIG_PINCTRL is not defined.

59738ab266 I2C: Explicitly include correct DT includes
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h
and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include
files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to
explicitly include the correct includes.

e190a0c389 i2c: Convert to platform remove callback returning void
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored
and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a
quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this
quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns
void.

d36678f790 i2c: imx: Only DMA messages with I2C_M_DMA_SAFE flag set

This is a minimal fix for stable. The I2C core provides helpers to

d98bdd3a5b i2c: imx: Make sure to unregister adapter on remove()
If for whatever reasons pm_runtime_resume_and_get() fails and .remove() is
exited early, the i2c adapter stays around and the irq still calls its
handler, while the driver data and the register mapping go away. So if
later the i2c adapter is accessed or the irq triggers this results in
havoc accessing freed memory and unmapped registers.

So unregister the software resources even if resume failed, and only skip
the hardware access in that case.

Description: When the I2C module is programmed to operate at the
maximum clock speed of 400 kHz (as defined by the I2C spec), the SCL
clock low period violates the I2C spec of 1.3 uS min. The user must
reduce the clock speed to obtain the SCL low time to meet the 1.3us
I2C minimum required. This behavior means the SoC is not compliant
to the I2C spec at 400kHz.

Workaround: To meet the clock low period requirement in fast speed
mode, SCL must be configured to 384KHz or less.
"

Implement the workaround by matching on the affected SoC specific
compatible strings and by limiting the maximum bus frequency in case
the SoC is affected.

In i2c_imx_xfer() and i2c_imx_remove(), the pm reference count
is not expected to be incremented on return.

However, pm_runtime_get_sync will increment pm reference count
even failed. Forgetting to putting operation will result in a
reference leak here.

Replace it with pm_runtime_resume_and_get to keep usage
counter balanced.

Additionally, the i2c_imx_isr() could wake up the wait queue
(imx_i2c_struct->queue) before its initialization happens.

The resource-managed framework should not be used for interrupt handling,
because the resource will be released too late - after disabling clocks.
The interrupt handler is not prepared for such case.

3a5ee18d2a i2c: imx: implement master_xfer_atomic callback
Rework the read and write code paths in the driver to support operation
in atomic contexts. To achieve this, the driver must not rely on IRQs
and not call schedule(), e.g. via a sleep routine, in these cases.

With this patch the driver supports normal operation, DMA transfers and
now the polling mode or also called sleep-free or IRQ-less operation. It
makes the code not simpler or easier to read, but atomic I2C transfers
are needed on some hardware configurations, e.g. to trigger reboots on
an external PMIC chip.

[ 153.320946] ---[ end trace a506731ccd9bd703 ]---

This endless clk warnings behaviour is well explained by Andrey Smirnov:

"Allocating DMA after registering I2C adapter can lead to infinite
probing loop, for example, consider the following scenario:

    1. i2c_imx_probe() is called and successfully registers an I2C
       adapter via i2c_add_numbered_adapter()

    2. As a part of i2c_add_numbered_adapter() new I2C slave devices
are added from DT which results in a call to
       driver_deferred_probe_trigger()

    3. i2c_imx_probe() continues and calls i2c_imx_dma_request() which
due to lack of proper DMA driver returns -EPROBE_DEFER

    4. i2c_imx_probe() fails, removes I2C adapter and returns
-EPROBE_DEFER, which places it into deferred probe list

    5. Deferred probe work triggered in #2 above kicks in and calls
i2c_imx_probe() again thus bringing us to step #1"

So revert commit e1ab9a468e ("i2c: imx: improve the error handling in
i2c_imx_dma_request()") and restore the old behaviour, in order to
avoid regressions on existing setups.

5b3a23a3cc i2c: imx: notify about real errors on dma i2c_imx_dma_request
At least on i.MX5x, the DMA events for I2C and SDHC use the same channel
and there can only be a single user. So in this case there should be no
message emitted that looks like an error if the I2C device doesn't have
an assigned DMA channel. In contrast real problems that were only
emitted at debug level before should be described at a higher level
to be better visible and so understandable.

99cc7ad46b Merge branch 'i2c/for-4.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/wsa/linux
Pull i2c updates from Wolfram Sang:

 - the core has now a lockless variant of i2c_smbus_xfer. Some open
coded versions of this got removed in drivers. This also enables
   proper SCCB support in regmap.

 - locking got a more precise naming. i2c_{un}lock_adapter() had to go,
and we know use i2c_lock_bus() consistently with flags like
I2C_LOCK_ROOT_ADAPTER and I2C_LOCK_SEGMENT to avoid ambiguity.

 - the gpio fault injector got a new delicate testcase

 - the bus recovery procedure got fixed to handle the new testcase
   correctly

 - a new quirk flag for controllers not able to handle zero length
messages together with driver updates to use it

 - new drivers: FSI bus attached I2C masters, GENI I2C controller, Owl
   family S900

 - and a good set of driver improvements and bugfixes

ef456a2de3 i2c: imx: Simplify stopped state tracking
Always update the stopped state when busy status have been checked.
This is identical to what was done before, with the exception of error
handling.
Without this change, some errors cause the stopped state to be left in
incorrect state in i2c_imx_stop(), i2c_imx_dma_read(), i2c_imx_read() and
i2c_imx_xfer().

bed4ff1ed4 i2c: imx: Fix race condition in dma read
This fixes a race condition, where the DMAEN bit ends up being set after
I2C slave has transmitted a byte following the dummy read. When that
happens, an interrupt is generated instead, and no DMA request is generated
to kickstart the DMA read, and a timeout happens after DMA_TIMEOUT (1 sec).

Fixed by setting the DMAEN bit before the dummy read.
